Today I am sharing with you a quick check if you have hidden stress. Stress of any sort can create a chain reaction of mental and physical diseases and must be addressed as soon as you experience it. Many chronic conditions or diseases such as hypertension, diabetes type 2, obesity, hypothyroid can be caused by stress.
Your breathing rate per minute is an indicator of physical and mental health and even longevity. Sit comfortably with your spine straight and start breathing as you would normally do. Start counting how many cycles of inhalation/ exhalation you are doing in a minute. One count would be one cycle of inhaling and exhaling. If your breath count per minute is above 15 counts/ minute, it may indicate you have some stress or health issues. Ideally, you should have a count of 12 to 13 per minute.
Start some Dharana (one-pointed concentration) yoga practices for 5 to 10 minutes a day in the morning before you have breakfast. In addition you can also do Yoga Asanas (postures) and Prana Yama practices
Most important of all learn Yogic breathing which is also described as deep abdominal breathing or diaphragm breathing. This breathing should be learnt properly and practiced throughout you life, not just at your Yoga Sessions.
